The Grange, Hampshire – Wedding & Event Production
The Grange stands in 600 acres of landscaped parkland on the banks of the Candover Brook, near Alresford, and is one of the most dramatic wedding and event venues in Hampshire. The Grade I listed house is widely regarded as the finest example of Greek Revival architecture in England. It was first built in the 1660s, later remodelled into its striking neoclassical form, and saved from demolition in 1975. Today English Heritage cares for it, and it hosts The Grange Festival’s summer opera season.
Peachy Productions provides wedding and event lighting, sound, staging and power at The Grange. Our production brings out the drama of the portico, the house and the parkland, and we work carefully within one of the county’s most important historic buildings.
A Greek Revival wedding venue near Winchester
The Grange is around 15 minutes from Winchester and within easy reach of London via the M3. Its temple-like portico overlooks ornamental lakes and open parkland, a backdrop unlike any other Hampshire wedding venue. The house is licensed for civil ceremonies, so couples can marry, dine and dance on the estate, with lakeside drinks and photographs in between.
Wedding and event spaces at The Grange
- The house: dining for up to 180 guests inside the house itself, with no marquee needed.
- The walled garden: hired separately for up to 200 guests. Ideal for summer receptions and garden parties.
- The ornamental lakes: for drinks receptions and photographs with the portico as a backdrop.
- Abbotstone Barn: a rustic barn licensed for civil ceremonies.
- Abbotstone Farm House: exclusive hire with overnight accommodation for up to 20 guests.
- St John the Evangelist: a flint-faced church on the northern edge of the estate, reached through the woods, for church ceremonies.
Wedding lighting at The Grange
The portico is The Grange’s signature feature, and lighting it after dark creates a moment your guests won’t forget. We uplight the columns and façade in warm white or your chosen colour. We also light the lakeside and the trees, so the estate stays part of the evening.
Inside, the lighting follows the day:
- warm uplighting and pin-spotting set the mood for the wedding breakfast
- festoon and candle-effect lighting where it suits the room
- dance floor lighting and effects when the band starts
Wedding sound and PA at The Grange
Ceremonies in the house, the barn or the church each need sound that suits the space. We provide discreet wireless microphones for the registrar, readers and musicians, so every guest hears the vows. For lakeside drinks or garden receptions, we supply background music systems that carry without overpowering the setting.
In the evening, we provide speech PA and full sound systems for bands and DJs. A sound engineer mixes live and keeps levels within the venue’s limits.
Power and production in the walled garden and parkland
A 600-acre estate opens up options well beyond the house. For walled garden receptions, lakeside celebrations or events elsewhere on the grounds, we supply silent generators, power distribution, lighting, sound and staging. We plan it all with the venue team from the start.
Working carefully in a Grade I listed building
As a Grade I listed building in English Heritage guardianship, The Grange needs particular care. We use free-standing equipment rather than fixings and protect floors and surfaces during load-in. Cable runs are kept tidy and safe. Access times, noise limits and equipment positions are agreed with the venue in advance. Our crew installs, operates and removes everything, leaving the house exactly as we found it.
